Dragon 1/72 Soviet SU-100 Tank Destroyer (by Burak Çınar)

Hello dear modeler,

Su-100 is a Soviet self-propelled anti-tank gun, based on the T-34 chasis, replaced the inferior Su-85. Its gun, 100mm D-10S was very powerful which was able to penetrate Panther’s front armor from 1500 meters. Massive using in Hungary, in 1945, it was a very late weapon in the Second World War; however, over 2000 were produced by the end of the war. Su-100 had postwar experiences as used in the wars in the Middle East and Africa.

Dragon’s Su-100 is a clear kit with PE parts, and an SP model which was rare in the Braille scale. I have no serious problem while assembling but losing very small and curved twin parts which was not perceptible when finished. Snow camouflage, which I preferred, is appropriate to Soviet assault guns. White scheme was painted over dark green, so I have sprayed primer dark green, then I mopped up with white. After placed the decals; I have used oil paints as washing and mopping up with drybrush using white, yellow, green, gray and black.

Happy numerous braille models!

Trumpeter 1/72 French Char B1 bis (by Burak Çınar)

Hello everyone,

Char B1 has a past till 1919 as an idea of concept of a breakthrough tank development in France. Researches on the machine advanced in different steps and renewed due to developing requirements. Finally, Char B1 was started to produce at the end of 1935, and in early 1937, the production was switched to the favour of better Char B1 bis.

Char B1 bis had one 75 mm howitzer, one 47 mm anti-tank gun and two 7,5 mm machine guns. The tank was 31,5 tons which made it one of the heaviest of the interwar tank technology in the world, probably the second after the Soviet T-35. Its frontal armor was 60 mm thick, a heavy protection for a breakthrough tank in early Second World War. Side armors were also thick as 55 mm. There were 369 Char B1 bis entered the service between 1937-1940.

This Char B1 bis was Trumpeter's braille scale model. After a clear assembling, I have sprayed it all with "Polisan 312 nefti yeşil" (dark green) as primer and then went on painting sand with brush. I liked the blue heart on the turret very much. I have carried out effects in two ways. At first, I used oil paints for washing, using the mopping up technique, and second I have applied to Tamiya's mud effects.

Have a nice modelling!

HobbyBoos 1/72 Soviet Draisine "Krasnaja Zvezda" (by Burak Çınar)

Draisine “Krasnaya Zvezda” on a Winter Patrol

Draisines were used by military means in both world wars. In the Second World War, those light armored rail motor vehicles were primarily used for reconnaissance and securing the rails. There were various turrets of tanks and tankettes fitted on railway chassis to raise their firepower. Krasnaya Zvezda was one of those as, perhaps, the most popular one in plastic modeling, had a KV-1 turret.

This model is in 1/72 scale, produced by HobbyBoss. Smooth chassis would give it a boxed silhouette; however KV turret was enough to complete its beautiful shape. There are few pieces to assemble, which makes the model a paint-shoot trial. There is also a satisfying base with the rail bed. Both of the plastic and the assembling quality are good.

I have preferred snowy days in the East front. Thus the base and the model were white. As primer; I sprayed the draisine with Polisan 312 Nefti Yeşil (Naphta Green), and the base with yellow. After that, I sprayed both with white. Further painting with brush came with dark green mopping up along with the edges. Weathering phase took much time than the painting. It is a standard to me; I prefer Tamiya’s weathering sets using green, yellow, black, gray and white; beside oil paints as Lukas Studio 3004 Burnt Green Earth, Winton 25 Lamp Black, Winton 45 Zinc White and Winton 13 Chrome Yellow. I enjoyed Tamiya 87119 snow effect very much while using it first onto the base.

Happy modelling
