End of Days... Esci/Italeri 1/72 IWO-JIMA set (by Burak Çınar)

This viniette was prepared for good-considered “End of Days” campaign of Armorama. The campaign needed a model to emphasis an apocalypse like zombies, Mad Max-like machines, etc. The campaigners built excellent modified or scratch-builded figures, machines or crafts:

When I was looking for Italeri’s 1/72 AFVs in a bookstore, I saw ex-ESCI Iwo Jima Flag Raisers Monument. That monument is a symbol of victory after one of the hardest landing in World War II. Iwo Jima was two years after Battle of Midway, the turning point in the Pacific. However, it is beginning of the end in the Pacific, having closed the American strategic bombers in range to Japanese mainland. So it could sympolize “an end” if it was reversed.

This was my start point. I was also watching Walking Dead, and it inspired me with Italeri’s set together. Now, I only needed 1/72 detailed skulls. I bought 28mm skull set from another store and modified on flag raisers’ bodies. Although skulls were oversized by 0.5 mm, it was more suitable to emphasis details of facial expression. Then I began to work…
Happy modeling..
